Software Engineer III - Backend & Data Systems (AI Solutions)

Location: Renton, WA; fully onsite, Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm, co-located with the Manufacturing Engineering organization and production floor. Relocation to the United States is available. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, refugees, or asylees lawfully admitted to the U.S.

Base pay for Washington applicants: $164,652.00–$230,512.80 annually; other site ranges may differ.

What you will do

• Own backend services, APIs, and data models, primarily in Python, and maintain technical-design and code-review standards.
• Build integrations that reconcile product data across multiple enterprise systems and sources of record.
• Improve and modernize existing applications, including authentication, data integrity, testing, and technical debt.
• Structure product data for AI features, add human-in-the-loop safeguards, and evaluate whether AI-assisted systems work effectively.
• Deploy and operate services on AWS and containerized infrastructure, including CI/CD, monitoring, reliability, and shared on-call responsibilities.
• Work directly with Manufacturing Engineers to understand workflows and validate that delivered software improves their work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production backend services.
• Strong backend and API development in Python or a comparable language, using REST and/or GraphQL for applications and AI agents.
• Deep experience with relational data modeling and SQL, including production schema changes and data migrations without breaking dependent applications.
• Experience integrating multiple systems of record, reconciling identifiers, handling incomplete or inconsistent data, and building pipelines that recover from partial failure.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications on AWS and containerized infrastructure.
• Experience integrating LLMs into products, designing evaluations, assessing usable model data, questioning misleading results, and reviewing AI-generated code for correctness.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, including the ability to work with non-technical users to turn needs into working software.

Nice to have

• Experience designing shared data models or services used by multiple applications.
• Experience preparing data for retrieval or agentic use.
• Experience modeling complex hierarchical data such as product structures or bills of materials.
• Experience connecting documents and engineering artifacts into structured workflows.
• Experience building software in or directly supporting manufacturing, aerospace, hardware production, or operations environments.
• Familiarity with MES, work-order or work-instruction authoring systems, or PLM, or a demonstrated habit of learning a domain deeply before building for it.
• Experience building internal tools adopted by engineers or operators.
• Experience with lakehouse and analytics platforms such as Databricks or Spark SQL.
