Assistant Designer, Cut & Sew Knitwear

Location: New York, NY

Salary: $24.00–$25.00 per hour, plus benefits, short-term incentive program, clothing allowance, and merchandise discounts.

What you will do

• Create and update technical flats, presentation boards, tech packs, and line sheets.
• Assist with fabric and trim sourcing, development submissions, and sample tracking.
• Attend fittings, document design comments, and update sketches and development details.
• Organize samples, materials, and digital files and improve systems where needed.
• Research vintage, runway, art, street style, and other sources, translating inspiration into silhouettes, colors, fabrics, and details.
• Partner with Product Development, Technical Design, Merchandising, and Production to meet seasonal deadlines.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of experience in design.
• Refined eye for color, proportion, and detail, with an appreciation for washed casual product, femininity, and tailoring.
• Ability to create clean technical flats in Illustrator or Procreate, with strong Photoshop skills.
• Familiarity with tech packs, line sheets, and fit notes.
• Basic understanding of garment construction, fabrics, and fit.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Positive, collaborative attitude, strong work ethic, receptiveness to feedback, thoughtful questions, and a solutions-oriented approach.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or related training.
• PLM familiarity, an expressive croquis sketching hand, and interest in fabric innovation.
• A focused PDF portfolio demonstrating strong research, design development, clean flats, and thoughtful self-editing. Portfolios may include denim, wovens, sportswear, and sweaters, but should show range beyond knitwear.
