TL;DR
Industrial Engineer, Logistics & Material Flow (Defense): Designing and scaling warehouse, transportation, packaging, and material-flow systems for advanced defense manufacturing with an accent on multisite logistics, inventory control, and production-ramp readiness. Focus on modeling capacity and transportation networks, protecting mission-critical hardware, improving material availability, and establishing scalable operating standards across facilities, suppliers, and test sites.

Location: Torrance, California; travel between company facilities, suppliers, logistics partners, and test sites is required as needed.

Company

hirify.global is an early-stage defense company developing and delivering advanced defense systems and scaling manufacturing operations.

What you will do

  • Design and optimize warehouse, stockroom, staging, kitting, shipping, receiving, and material-handling layouts.
  • Develop end-to-end material-flow maps, internal routing strategies, replenishment systems, operating standards, and standard work.
  • Plan multisite transportation between facilities, suppliers, test sites, customers, and external logistics partners; model routes, shipment consolidation, vehicles, costs, lead times, and service risks.
  • Develop packaging, labeling, containerization, reusable-container, dunnage, rack, pallet, cart, and material-protection requirements for components, hazardous materials, tooling, and mission-critical equipment.
  • Analyze demand, production schedules, inventory, facility constraints, labor, space, routing, and cost data; lead capacity studies, risk assessments, and root-cause investigations.
  • Improve logistics systems, metrics, WMS/ERP, barcode/RFID, master data, reporting, facility planning, automation assessments, contingency plans, documentation, and training in partnership with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, software, procurement, finance, facilities, security, program management, suppliers, carriers, and brokers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial engineering, warehouse engineering, logistics engineering, manufacturing, distribution, or a related operating environment.
  • Experience designing or improving warehouse layouts, material-flow systems, transportation processes, or inventory operations.
  • Experience analyzing operational data and developing capacity, labor, space, routing, or cost models.
  • Ability to create process maps, layouts, standard work, and operational documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment, manage multiple priorities, and work hands-on in warehouse, manufacturing, and logistics environments.
  • Access to export-controlled information without additional export licensing must be possible; employment may be contingent on applicable U.S. Government authorization, security clearance, citizenship, or other eligibility requirements if designated for the role.

Nice to have

  • Experience in hardware development, aerospace, defense, automotive, electronics, or other complex manufacturing environments, including transitioning from prototype or low-rate production to high-rate production.
  • Experience with multisite logistics networks, interfacility transportation, regional distribution, warehouse slotting, pick-path optimization, kitting, supermarkets, kanban, milk runs, point-of-use delivery, packaging engineering, returnable containers, dunnage, crating, shock and vibration protection, ESD controls, or sensitive-hardware handling.
  • Familiarity with transportation planning, carrier management, freight classification, shipment consolidation, routing guides, delivery metrics, WMS, ERP, barcode/RFID, and inventory-control systems.
  • Experience with CAD, Visio, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Excel, SQL, Python, Tableau, Power BI, discrete-event simulation, facility modeling, network optimization, or logistics modeling tools.
  • Background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, Theory of Constraints, continuous improvement, labor standards, time studies, ergonomic analysis, or travel-distance analysis.
  • Familiarity with APQP, Control Plans, PFMEA, process risk assessments, significant or critical characteristics, hazardous-material transportation, DOT requirements, export-controlled hardware, or secure logistics.
  • Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA; forklift, powered industrial truck, or other material-handling-equipment experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication across technical and operational teams.

Culture & Benefits

  • Generous benefits package.
  • Early-stage environment with significant ownership and direct impact on the company’s defense mission.
  • Fast-paced, changing work environment focused on execution, ownership, and excellence.
  • Equal opportunity workplace with reasonable accommodations available throughout the application and hiring process.
