Senior Software Engineer, Realtime Analytics Platform (OLAP)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $243,290–$295,250 USD base pay.

What you will do

• Own the architecture, operational health, and scalability of StarRocks and Apache Druid OLAP platforms.
• Optimize query engine internals, cost-based optimization, query planning, vectorized execution, memory usage, and serialization for sub-second latency under heavy concurrent load.
• Design and optimize real-time streaming ingestion pipelines using Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, and native engine load mechanisms.
• Guide OLAP data modeling across infrastructure, data science, and product engineering teams, including partitioning, bucketing, sort keys, and materialized views.
• Lead cluster provisioning, lifecycle management, operations, and capacity planning with Kubernetes and Terraform across cloud environments.
• Integrate AI/ML and LLM-driven capabilities to enable automated self-service mechanisms and intelligent data discovery.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building, designing, testing, and maintaining production-grade large-scale distributed systems.
• Hands-on engineering or operational experience with StarRocks or adjacent OLAP engines such as Apache Druid, ClickHouse, Apache Doris, Apache Pinot, or Trino/Presto.
• Experience implementing high-volume streaming ingestion with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Routine Load, Broker Load, or Debezium/CDC pipelines.
• Expertise in OLAP schema design, including partitioning, bucketing, sort keys, indexing, and tuning cost-based SQL query engines at massive scale.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Go, C++, or Scala, with experience writing clean, high-performance distributed backend code.
• Experience operating, troubleshooting, and provisioning data infrastructure at scale with Kubernetes and Terraform on AWS or GCP.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams, mentor engineers, and drive alignment on complex cross-cutting initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree equivalent in Computer Science or sufficient experience.

Nice to have

• Core contributions to open-source OLAP databases such as StarRocks, Apache Druid, ClickHouse, or Apache Doris.
• Experience operating real-time analytical platforms at consumer-internet scale with 100M+ active users.
