AI Consulting Associate Program (AI CAP) Engineering Intern - Summer 2027 (AI)

Location: Hybrid office role in Chicago or New York, with an expectation of working in the office 3–4 days per week during the 10–12 week program from May to August 2027.

Salary: $35–$40 per hour.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and develop agentic AI workflows that automate or augment business and engineering tasks such as analysis, triage, documentation, and knowledge synthesis.
• Build internal tools and proof-of-concept systems combining LLMs, APIs, and automation frameworks into end-to-end solutions.
• Experiment with single-agent and multi-agent architectures, planner/executor patterns, and human-in-the-loop workflows while documenting tradeoffs.
• Apply best practices for AI-driven automation and evaluate agent reliability, correctness, and failure modes.
• Document designs, experiments, and lessons learned for reuse and extension by the team.
• Demo work directly to customers and leadership.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Expected graduation date in 2027 or 2028.
• Programming experience in Python for automation, prototyping, and scripting, plus SQL.
• Familiarity with APIs, JSON, and basic service integration.
• Foundational understanding of large language models and application patterns including prompting, tool use, and retrieval.
• Strong curiosity, willingness to explore rapidly evolving technologies, a growth mindset, and ability to experiment and iterate.
• Systems-thinking ability to reason about workflows, edge cases, and unintended consequences.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical ideas to non-engineers.
• Ownership mindset and ability to accept feedback and iterate quickly.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with or exposure to agentic frameworks such as AWS Strands SDK or LangChain.
• Exposure to cloud platforms or containerized environments.
• Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS.
• Experience building internal tools, CLIs, or low-code web apps.
• Interest in AI evaluation, testing, or reliability techniques.
