Senior Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Kaunas or Vilnius, Lithuania; hybrid work with 2 recommended office days per week. Remote work is available for up to 90 days per year in the EU, including 21 days globally; for non-EU citizens, 21 days worldwide.

Salary: €5,250–€7,100 gross per month.

What you will do

• Build and run verification systems for identity documents, biometric checks, eKYC, address matching, and bank account verification.
• Develop and own third-party integrations, including clients, callbacks, durable Temporal workflows, dashboards, SLA alerts, and vendor coordination.
• Design provider-failure handling, including weighted traffic routing, provider health tracking, retry rerouting, and A/B testing between providers.
• Take ownership of ambiguous requirements through technical planning, cross-team alignment, implementation, feature-flagged rollout, and production monitoring.
• Handle PII tagging, log masking, and GDPR retention and deletion across databases, object storage, and external providers.
• Maintain tests, critical alerts, business metrics, on-call rotations, and services targeting 99.99% availability.

Requirements

• Solid experience building and running backend services in production using Go or a sufficiently similar language, with the ability to become productive in Go quickly.
• Hands-on experience integrating third-party APIs and handling timeouts, rate limits, inconsistent responses, and missing callbacks.
• Strong understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals, including idempotency, at-least-once delivery, workflow orchestration, and data consistency across services.
• Experience creating dashboards and alerts and taking responsibility for production observability.
• Ability to clarify ambiguous problems, write technical proposals, and align several teams.
• Ability to handle personal data responsibly and work within compliance and regulatory constraints.
• Ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers and provide effective code and design reviews.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Unit tests are required for written code, with contributions to integration and end-to-end testing.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, KYC/AML, or another regulated domain.
• Experience with Temporal or a similar workflow engine.
