Data Center Technician

Location: Elk Grove, IL; 100% onsite at a data center location with up to 10% travel to other data center locations and a rotating on-call shift in a 24/7 environment.

Salary: $65,000–$85,000 base salary per year, plus discretionary bonus, equity awards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Maintain data center operations to ensure service availability, reliability, and defined service levels.
• Perform hardware and network diagnostics, physical repairs, and root cause analysis of hardware and software failures.
• Respond to on-site equipment failures and emergencies within 60 minutes while on scheduled on-call shifts.
• Develop scripts to update server and networking hardware.
• Assemble and install equipment, maintain inventory, and service test and tool equipment.
• Provide technical support, train internal teams, and develop documentation.

Requirements

• Computer hardware experience, including troubleshooting and assembly.
• Linux operating system experience.
• Ability to regularly transport and position equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while performing diagnostic and repair tasks.
• Ability to maneuver in cramped or elevated spaces, including under-floor areas and ladders, to access server racks.
• Ability to perform fine-motor tasks involving small hardware components and cables.
• Availability for a flexible schedule in a 24/7 environment, including a rotating on-call shift.
• Ability to work in a climate-controlled data center with fluctuating temperatures and variable airflow, including designated hot and cold aisles ranging from 60°F to 90°F.
• Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and react quickly to issues.
• Applicants must meet applicable U.S. export-control eligibility requirements for access to controlled information, such as being a U.S. person or being eligible for access or export authorization.

Nice to have

• Hands-on or education-based experience with computer hardware troubleshooting and repair, data centers, computer networking, Python, Bash, or other scripting languages.
• Experience with Cisco IOS and/or Juniper JunOS.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in an IT-related field.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt when troubleshooting complex physical infrastructure challenges.
• Curiosity about data center networking, server architectures, and automation scripts.
• Drive to maintain high reliability standards and solve operational constraints.
