Software Engineer Intern

What you will do

• Assist with software requirements analysis, research, design, development, and testing of software and tools.
• Develop new work products and enhance existing applications.
• Apply engineering standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle.
• Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
• Contribute to a collaborative technical culture and user-centered design efforts.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in an accredited degree program in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related scientific or technical discipline; sophomore standing or higher is preferred.
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering technology.
• Have strong fundamentals in computer science theory, including data structures, algorithms, and computational complexity.
• Have solid object-oriented programming and software design skills.
• Be proficient in at least one of Java, C++, or JavaScript/TypeScript using object-oriented techniques.
• Have knowledge of web services and technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Redux.
• Be a creative thinker with communication and collaboration skills, an interest in solving complex problems, and an appreciation for user-centric design.

Nice to have

• Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of hire.
• Familiarity with DevOps toolchains including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, or GitLab.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services and tooling.
• Experience supporting software teams using Agile methodologies.
• Knowledge of concurrent programming, multithreaded systems, memory and CPU profiling, data modeling, and efficient data access methods.
• Experience building large-scale mission-critical applications or distributed systems.
• Experience with message queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, direct user-interface manipulation, and information visualization.
• Demonstrated success leading the software development life cycle, applying technical standards, championing improvements, and providing technical leadership.
