Compiler Engineering Intern

Location: Toronto, Canada. Hybrid work model with time split between the assigned hirify.global site and off-site work.

What you will do

• Contribute to compiler and runtime technologies across features, intermediate representations, optimization, code generation, offload, debugging, testing, or developer tooling.
• Develop and debug C++ software in a large collaborative codebase and contribute to open-source projects when relevant.
• Create tests, reproduce defects, analyze failures, and evaluate correctness, compile-time behavior, runtime performance, and code quality.
• Work with compiler and hardware architecture engineers on projects involving LLVM, MLIR, Triton, DSLs, AI frameworks, and machine-learning models.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, project planning, and documentation of designs, experiments, and results.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 3 months of coursework or project experience in data structures, algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, programming languages, or compiler construction.
• Experience programming in C++ and using software development and debugging tools in a Linux or similar environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• This position is not eligible for hirify.global immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Compiler development experience with LLVM, MLIR, Triton, GCC, Clang, or similar frameworks.
• Experience with CUDA, SYCL, OpenMP, HIP, GPU compute kernels, or tile-based programming models.
• Knowledge of CPU or GPU architecture, heterogeneous computing, systems programming, PyTorch, vLLM, SGLang, or machine-learning model ecosystems.
• Experience with Git, automated testing, continuous integration, performance analysis, or open-source development.
