TL;DR
Propulsion Design Engineer, Propulsion (Rocket Propulsion): Developing modular rocket engine and fluid-system models for load-point predictions, performance studies, and flight software parameters with an accent on engine cycle calculations, component characterization, and measurement quality. Focus on uncertainty quantification, sensor requirements, performance validation, and modeling turbopumps, valves, thrust chambers, and combustion systems.

Location: Parsdorf, Bavaria, Germany

Company

hirify.global is a privately funded aerospace company developing sustainable launch solutions for small and medium-sized satellites and constellations in Low Earth Orbit.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain modular engine and fluid-system models for existing, conceptual, and future rocket engines.
  • Coordinate component model characterization with product owners and maintain the component performance database.
  • Provide engine load-point predictions during development and test campaigns and define engine performance acceptance criteria for flight and qualification tests.
  • Develop tools to increase acceptance-testing cadence and provide engine performance metrics and uncertainty quantification for the Guidance, Navigation and Control flight software team.
  • Maintain characteristic engine parameters, transient lookup tables, and secondary models for rocket kinematics, including thrust from chilldown bleed flows and purges.
  • Define sensor requirements and uncertainty propagation for engine performance verification across development testing, stage testing, and flight.

Requirements

  • M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a similar field.
  • Exceptional knowledge of thermodynamics and rocket motor system architecture, including subsystem interactions.
  • Knowledge of measurement technology and stochastic analysis, including uncertainty quantification and propagation.
  • Fundamental understanding of combustion, thrust chambers, valves, and turbopump systems.
  • Proven experience developing and validating empirical, semi-empirical, or analytical models and setting up cycle models for complex fluid systems or machinery.
  • Effective collaboration in multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams, with an organized, detail-oriented, and proactive working style.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Driven attitude, eagerness to learn, and passion for New Space.
  • Fluent English.

Nice to have

  • Professional experience in rocket propulsion development.
  • Experience with Simulink or cycle model development for rocket or aircraft engines or similar systems.
  • Willingness to travel abroad to support engine test and launch campaigns.

Culture & Benefits

  • Employee participation through a virtual company share program.
  • 30 days of vacation.
  • Company pension plan with a 20% employer contribution after the probation period.
  • Subsidised lunches, rental clothing with laundry service, and sponsored sports club membership.
  • Individual learning budget after the probation period and childcare allowance for non-school-age children.
  • Flexible mobility budget with options including a Deutschlandticket, JobRad bicycle leasing, FINN JobAuto, or fuel allowance.
