Thai Linguist

Location: Fairfax County, Virginia; onsite work is required, as remote work is not eligible unless required and approved by the customer.

What you will do

• Monitor communication intercepts and digital media, organize and categorize content, and provide immediate oral and written summaries in English.
• Translate and transcribe audio, video, conversations, legal documents, handwritten materials, maps, charts, and other source exhibits verbatim in the foreign language, English, or both.
• Interpret consecutively between the foreign language and English, taking notes for the Linguistic Supervisor or COR when requested.
• Identify conversants using voice libraries and conversation context, maintain slang and code lists, and prepare digital copies and records.
• Operate recording, playback, computer, television, and digital T2S2 equipment as directed by customer personnel.
• Validate other linguists’ transcripts and translations against source media and attest to final accuracy.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Successful language assessment in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in both the native language and English.
• Required fluency in Thai for this role, with verification of language skills; the posting also identifies Arabic, Bengali, and Chinese Cantonese linguist fluency as required.
• Excellent command of English with clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Native or near-native ability to listen to, understand, read, and comprehend foreign-language conversations and varied text types, including slang and colloquial expressions.
• Sufficient English vocabulary to paraphrase or explain content without unnecessary assistance, including face-to-face speech.
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and understand the specific tasks being processed and produced.
• Minimum typing or word-processing speed of 40 words per minute; the Government may waive this requirement in exceptional circumstances.
