Payroll Expert with German

Location: Hybrid in Katowice, Poznań, Wrocław, or Warsaw, Poland. Flexible working hours and remote work opportunities are available; workation is possible from any hirify.global location for up to 4 weeks per year within the EU.

What you will do

• Take end-to-end responsibility for payroll processes, including optimisation, standardisation, and cross-country harmonisation.
• Ensure compliance with local employment, tax, and social security regulations, with a focus on German payroll requirements.
• Act as a key contact for internal and external stakeholders and coordinate cross-country collaboration.
• Assess payroll and system changes, coordinate adjustments, and lead payroll projects, implementations, transitions, testing, and system changes.
• Develop payroll templates, local solutions, and enhancement proposals with Product teams while monitoring performance and identifying opportunities for automation and digitalisation.
• Provide expert guidance, training, workshops, documentation, and functional support while ensuring delivery meets contractual obligations and SLAs.

Requirements

• 8–12 years of payroll experience, preferably in an outsourcing or shared services environment.
• Strong expertise in payroll systems, configurations, integrations, and local payroll regulations.
• Good understanding of German payroll, tax, and labour legislation.
• Fluent English and German skills.
• Very good command of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong ownership, results orientation, quality focus, and a structured, proactive approach.
• Very good stakeholder and customer management skills, including the ability to communicate complex payroll matters clearly and persuasively.
• High integrity and discretion when handling sensitive data, with resilience and confidence in critical or time-sensitive situations.
• Ability to influence through functional expertise, persuasion, and collaboration without formal people-management responsibility.

• Experience with expat/impat payroll, split payroll, and shadow payroll.
