Senior Applied Scientist (Computer Vision)

What you will do

• Develop computer vision capabilities for visual understanding, detection, segmentation, and OCR on complex real-world data.
• Advance image retrieval, semantic search, and multimodal representations connecting visual content with language and contextual information.
• Research scene reconstruction and geolocation methods and define approaches and evaluation criteria for challenging visual tasks.
• Design data mixtures and training strategies, run and debug experiments, and improve model quality, stability, and efficiency.
• Own problem definition, data development, experimentation, validation, robustness testing, and failure-mode analysis through deployment in partnership with engineering.
• Identify risks early, challenge ideas constructively, collaborate on difficult problems, and mentor fellow researchers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on AI/ML experience, including substantial ownership of multiple projects from problem definition through real-world use.
• Deep expertise in computer vision, with experience delivering production models and understanding real-world failure modes.
• MSc or PhD in a relevant field, or equivalent demonstrated research accomplishments.
• Strong implementation skills in Python and PyTorch or JAX, including experience building and debugging large-scale training and evaluation pipelines.
• Depth in one or more of visual understanding, OCR, image retrieval, multimodal learning, scene reconstruction, or geolocation.
• Experience with data curation, training stability, experiment logging, ablation studies, and rigorous evaluation across varied data and operating conditions.
• Independent ownership, comfort navigating ambiguity, and the ability to make sound trade-offs across accuracy, robustness, compute, and deployment constraints.
