TL;DR
Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Robotics): Designing production layouts, material flows, and continuous improvement systems for robotic welding cells with an accent on lean manufacturing, factory logistics, and production ramp planning. Focus on modeling capacity and takt time, improving flow and ergonomics, and coordinating facility transitions, engineering releases, and operational KPIs.

Location: On-site in Columbus, Ohio, United States; must be local or willing to relocate. Regular work takes place in the office and on the production floor, with occasional travel to building sites, suppliers, and equipment vendors.

Company

hirify.global develops robotic welding systems and builds robotic welding cells for industrial manufacturing.

What you will do

  • Lead production layout planning for new buildings, covering process and material flow, workstations, storage, utilities, equipment placement, and traffic patterns.
  • Plan production moves and design material flow from receiving and storage through kitting, line-side delivery, work-in-progress movement, and shipment.
  • Map current- and future-state value streams and lead kaizen, 5S, standard work, and other continuous improvement activities.
  • Build takt-time, line-balancing, capacity, staffing, and floor-space models; identify and resolve flow constraints with Supply Chain, Quality, and Design Engineering.
  • Develop standard work, work instructions, visual management, fixtures, tooling, kanban, and point-of-use storage with technicians and supervisors.
  • Define and track manufacturing KPIs, maintain accurate material-movement data with ERP and inventory system owners, support design for manufacturability and assembly, and coach engineers and technicians in A3, root cause analysis, and PDCA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment, ideally in low-volume, high-mix assembly of complex electromechanical equipment, machinery, or automation systems.
  • Proven experience leading production facility layout projects from concept through move-in, including new buildings, plant expansions, or line relocations.
  • Strong understanding of factory design, line layout, and intra-factory logistics for hardware manufacturing, including fabricated structures, electromechanical assemblies, wiring, and controls.
  • Experience supporting new products from introduction through production ramp.
  • Hands-on lean manufacturing experience with measurable results from value stream mapping, kaizen, 5S, standard work, and pull systems, plus a track record of building a continuous improvement culture on the production floor.
  • Proficiency in CAD for layout work, using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, and ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use data for time studies, capacity models, and line-balancing analysis in Excel or similar tools.
  • Clear communication and cross-functional project leadership skills, with the ability to gain buy-in from technicians through senior leadership; self-starter comfortable with ambiguity and limited resources.
  • Ability to work on-site in Columbus, Ohio, including extended standing and walking, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs, and working around noise, welding operations, moving equipment, and required PPE.

Nice to have

  • Plant layout or flow simulation tools experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Experience with robotics, welding, or industrial automation.

Culture & Benefits

  • Collaborative environment where ideas are welcomed and valued.
  • Focus on solving complex manufacturing and robotics challenges.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal access throughout the hiring process.
  • Role may support U.S. Government contract work and involve FAR, DFARS, ITAR, EAR, and Controlled Unclassified Information requirements.
  • Employment may be contingent on a compliant background check.
