Software Engineer, Internship - Query Engines

Location: New York, NY, United States; on-site work from an office is required.

Salary: $10,500 per month.

hirify.global builds software for data-driven decisions and operations, including the Foundry data platform.

What you will do

• Build and extend data processing infrastructure and query engines supporting hirify.global Foundry workloads.
• Develop query planning rules and capabilities for native execution engines.
• Optimize the scanning and processing of large tables.
• Work through design, code review, testing, and release in production systems.
• Apply open-source technologies including Apache Spark, Apache DataFusion, Apache Comet, Velox, Apache Iceberg, Apache Arrow, and Apache Parquet.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in at least one language such as Java, Rust, Scala, C++, or C.
• Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and concurrency.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Coursework or projects in databases, compilers, operating systems, or distributed systems.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
• Must be planning on graduating in 2028; this must be the final internship before graduation.

Nice to have

• No prior experience with the listed technologies is required; willingness to learn them during the internship is expected.
