Manager, Software Engineering - AI Infrastructure

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; United States; Canada. The role can be held from a US hub or remotely in the United States, with in-person onboarding required.

Annual base salary: $258,000–$376,000 USD.

What you will do

• Lead, grow, and support engineers building foundational infrastructure for Figma’s AI products.
• Define technical strategy and manage day-to-day project execution with engineering and product leaders.
• Hire, coach, and develop senior and staff engineers.
• Engage deeply with technical decisions to deliver a reliable, observable, and scalable AI platform.
• Build an inclusive team and culture through thoughtful hiring and team-building practices.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing, fast-moving teams, ideally in AI.
• 8+ years of total engineering experience, ideally including staff-level individual contributor experience.
• Experience working on production AI systems.
• A proven track record of motivating, mentoring, and growing experienced AI engineering leads.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new AI technologies quickly and build technical depth in a new domain.
• Experience building and scaling engineering teams and organizational structures as they grow.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI agents, agent harnesses or loops, or LLM and agent tooling platforms.
• Experience building high-scale production infrastructure, including traffic or inference systems, metering, anti-abuse, or billing systems.
• Background in adjacent platform domains such as recommendation systems or networking.
