Staff Software Engineer - Experimentation Platform (TypeScript)

Location: Hybrid, requiring 2 days in office every Tuesday and Wednesday at the San Francisco hub, 130 Sutter St, San Francisco, California, United States.

Base salary: $150,000–$200,000. Total compensation may also include a bonus, benefits, and perks.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, integration, and adoption of a company-wide experimentation and feature-testing platform.
• Design, build, and maintain robust, high-performance TypeScript APIs and foundational services.
• Integrate shared capabilities with Ruby on Rails backend services and existing application infrastructure.
• Drive improvements to platform performance, reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
• Mentor engineers on experimentation, API design, and scalable architecture.
• Partner with Engineering and Product leadership on a unified data-driven experimentation strategy and advise senior leadership on platform initiatives.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing modern APIs.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major experimentation and feature-flagging platform, such as Optimizely, Growthbook, Statsig, or similar.
• Professional experience with AI-led agentic software development, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
• Experience building and maintaining robust TypeScript-based APIs and services.
• Exceptionally strong technical design and architecture skills focused on scalable shared capabilities.
• Experience with modern software development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and containerized environments.
• Passion for mentoring engineers and elevating team capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for clearly explaining complex technical subjects.
• Proven ability to break complex platform initiatives into manageable, high-impact iterations.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and data streaming mechanisms such as Kafka.
• Experience with AWS, infrastructure as code, and Kubernetes.
• Comfort with relational and key-value datastores such as MySQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
• Experience with Backend-for-Frontend design patterns.
