Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Operations

Location: Oakland, California, United States

Base pay: $202,500–$274,000 per year in Oakland; the position may also be eligible for a cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive solutions and implement systems that enable reliable, scalable use of public cloud platforms.
• Design and maintain compute platform architecture and reliability across IaaS and PaaS environments.
• Build and evolve infrastructure tools and frameworks for configuration management, IAM, WAF, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, monitoring, high availability, Kubernetes, Helm, and Flux.
• Work with public cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform and AWS, as well as container orchestration systems including Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to translate application requirements into infrastructure capabilities.
• Lead technical design, architecture, troubleshooting, automation, and adoption of SRE practices to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a web-centric Linux production environment, building and architecting infrastructure that scales modern web applications and supporting components.
• Strong understanding of computer engineering focused on infrastructure, platforms, applications, cloud, containerization, container orchestration, networking, application reliability, and database architecture.
• Demonstrable knowledge of TCP/IP, HTTP, web application security, and multi-tier web application architectures.
• Experience running infrastructure at scale using configuration management and automation to ensure idempotency, ephemerality, and reliability.
• Professional knowledge of Python, Go, or another higher-level object-oriented programming language.
• Professional experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and CI/CD toolsets.
• Familiarity with SRE methodologies and using automation and software to solve operational problems.
• Effective written and verbal communication across organizational levels and teams.
