Lead Data Engineer (Gaming)

Location: On-site, 5 days a week at the Downtown Vancouver studio, Vancouver, Canada.

Salary: $150,000–$200,000 CAD per year; the listed range applies specifically to candidates located in Vancouver.

What you will do

• Lead and manage the data engineering team, including day-to-day direction, performance management, development, mentoring, and architectural reviews.
• Own the data engineering roadmap and central data platform, prioritizing work against company and data priorities.
• Define data standards, model contracts, testing, certification, governance, lineage, documentation, access control, retention, and privacy compliance.
• Design and evolve lakehouse and medallion data architecture across GCS, Databricks, and BigQuery, and lead platform migrations and legacy pipeline modernization.
• Build and maintain reliable data pipelines with dbt, orchestration tools, CI/CD, and data-ops practices; own SLAs, monitoring, incident response, quality alerting, and technical debt prioritization.
• Partner with backend, game, analytics, finance, marketing, data science, and external data vendors to deliver data products and improve data-driven decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of data engineering experience, including 2+ years leading engineers or owning a data platform.
• Deep expertise in SQL, Python, and data modeling using dimensional, medallion, or lakehouse patterns.
• Production experience with dbt and a cloud data warehouse, preferably BigQuery.
• Experience defining data standards, contracts, and testing frameworks.
• Demonstrated record of reducing cloud data costs at scale.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD and data-ops practices.
• Ability to influence peers and stakeholders outside the reporting line.

Nice to have

• GCP experience, including BigQuery, Dataplex, and GKE.
• Experience with Databricks or Spark.
• Game or mobile telemetry experience, including monetization, advertising, or user acquisition data.
• Experience supporting data science, ML, or AI analytics workloads.
