Senior Observability Systems Engineer (Dynatrace)

Location: Hybrid, Somerville, Massachusetts, United States; on-site work at Mass General Brigham local sites weekly or monthly as required, with periodic in-person meetings. Full-time work during Eastern business hours; on-call rotation is required.

Salary: $93,953.60–$136,739.20 annually.

What you will do

• Deploy, configure, and optimize Dynatrace and Cisco ThousandEyes observability platforms.
• Build dashboards, alerts, management zones, tagging rules, synthetic tests, and network-path tests for earlier detection and faster troubleshooting.
• Develop Terraform configuration-as-code, repositories, and pipelines in Azure DevOps, with a planned transition to GitHub Enterprise.
• Create custom Dynatrace extensions and onboard applications and infrastructure through instrumentation, monitoring configuration, and data validation.
• Implement observability in Azure DevOps frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, including instrumentation and quality gates.
• Automate alerting and remediation, establish observability standards with application, cloud, network, and security teams, and provide documentation and operational guidance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required; relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
• 5–7 years of experience as a systems engineer or in a related technical engineering role.
• Hands-on Dynatrace experience covering application performance monitoring, infrastructure monitoring, real user monitoring, and Dynatrace Query Language.
• Experience with Cisco ThousandEyes for synthetic testing, path visualization, and internet or wide area network performance monitoring.
• Experience with Terraform configuration-as-code, including the Dynatrace Terraform provider.
• Experience with source control and pipelines in Azure DevOps.
• Strong Python and JavaScript programming skills for automation, custom telemetry, and tooling, plus experience developing custom Dynatrace extensions.
• Experience implementing observability for Azure DevOps frameworks and CI/CD pipelines; foundational knowledge of applications, servers, storage, and networks.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, mentoring, and vendor-management skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• GitHub Enterprise familiarity.
• PowerShell scripting experience.
• Familiarity with Splunk, Microsoft SCOM, SiteScope, or Nagios.
• Dynatrace Associate or Professional certification.
• Azure certification, such as Azure Administrator or Azure DevOps Engineer.
• Experience with Monaco and Dynatrace Grail.
• Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering practices, including service level indicators, service level objectives, and error budgets.
