Environmental Waste, Water, SPCC Specialist

Location: Birmingham, Alabama, United States; hybrid schedule with 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home; approximately 30% overnight travel.

What you will do

• Support Operations and Project Management with non-hazardous, RCRA and state hazardous, TENORM, mixed, and universal waste management.
• Prepare and maintain SPCC Plans under 40 CFR Part 112, conduct annual SPCC training, and ensure facility inspections are completed and documented.
• Provide spill and release response support, including regulator notifications and technical assistance with compliant cleanup activities.
• Manage compliance activities for authorized stormwater and wastewater discharge permits, including discharge monitoring reports and pollution prevention plan training.
• Interpret EHS regulations and advise management on emerging contaminants, regulatory developments, environmental liabilities, and risk management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental sciences, or an equivalent science program.
• At least 3 years of industrial environmental compliance or related consulting experience.
• Experience with environmental compliance programs, including water permitting, spill prevention and response, SPCC compliance, environmental reporting, and environmental training.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and use discretion when planning field activities, coordinating site visits, and managing travel schedules.
• Approximately 30% ongoing overnight travel, occasional air travel, and ability to climb stairs, traverse rugged terrain, and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license and driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
