TL;DR
Robotics Software Engineer (Multimodal Inspection) (C++/Python/ROS 2): Developing non-RGB inspection modalities and integrating thermal, gas, and acoustic sensing into real-robot perception and mission pipelines with an accent on sensor fusion, calibration, and real-time reliability. Focus on projecting detections into 3D, activating sensing-based behaviors, persisting evidence through network outages, and analyzing performance in field deployments.

Location: Irvine, California, United States. On-site.

Company

hirify.global develops risk-aware, field-ready embodied AI systems for real robots, sensors, and real-world deployments.

What you will do

  • Develop inspection modalities beyond RGB, including radiometric thermal, gas detection, and acoustic signatures.
  • Fuse multimodal sensing into perception and mission pipelines.
  • Implement sensing-based behavior activation.
  • Deliver per-asset evidence and alerts into the data platform and on-premises flows.
  • Analyze multimodal inspection performance across real-world deployments.

Requirements

  • MS in robotics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, computer science, or a related field, plus 3+ years building sensing software for real robots.
  • Strong C++ and Python skills, with experience using ROS 2 to integrate sensor drivers and real-time pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with camera and thermal calibration, cross-modal registration, and geometry for projecting detections between sensors and into 3D.
  • Experience working with real-time constraints, including latency budgets, dropout handling, and persisting data through network outages.
  • Experience debugging sensors on robots in field environments without desk-based infrastructure.

Nice to have

  • Optical gas imaging, multi-gas sensing, or radiometric thermal analysis.
  • Acoustic anomaly detection for rotating machinery.
  • Predictive maintenance integrations with CMMS or SCADA, or functional safety experience.
  • Experience applying foundation models to thermal or non-RGB imagery.

Culture & Benefits

  • On-site work with real robots, sensors, and hardware deployments in Irvine.
  • Work on systems that are tested and improved through real-world field deployments.
  • Work within the Mission, Interaction & Intelligence engineering department.
