TL;DR
Supervisor, Child Safety Operations (AI): Leading child safety operations across X and Grok, including high-risk investigations, NCMEC reporting, escalations, and analyst performance with an accent on CSAM/CSE enforcement, legal defensibility, and automation. Focus on managing crisis escalations, evaluating AI enforcement systems, analyzing operational data, and developing a team exposed to highly sensitive content.

Location: Fully onsite in Austin, Texas, with coverage from either Tuesday to Saturday or Sunday to Thursday shifts; occasional travel to collaborate with global teams.

Company

xAI develops the Super Intelligence stack, including Colossus supercomputers, Grok models, and applications such as Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X.

What you will do

  • Lead the Austin-based Child Safety analyst team across morning and night shifts, maintaining consistent standards, SLA adherence, handovers, documentation, and knowledge checks.
  • Handle complex, urgent, and high-profile cases; own escalations from Legal, law enforcement response, Safety leadership, and product teams.
  • Own NCMEC reporting decisions and ensure reports, suspensions, and bounces are accurate, documented, legally compliant, and escalated to Legal when necessary.
  • Coordinate with Safety, Legal, Engineering, Policy, HR, workforce management, and other Safety teams on incidents, action items, viral abuse trends, and emerging risks.
  • Lead an automation-first operating model covering classifier calibration, Grok enforcement, model evaluations, audits, labeling, false-positive analysis, and improvements to curated training data.
  • Use SQL, Python, LLM-powered agents, dashboards, and KPIs to analyze operations, identify trends and anomalies, improve processes, and coach team performance.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in online child safety, Trust & Safety operations, criminal investigations, or a closely related field, including 2+ years leading or supervising a team.
  • Expertise identifying, investigating, and preventing CSAM and CSE, including grooming behaviors and risks in AI-generated content; strong knowledge of NCMEC reporting obligations and industry standards for protecting minors.
  • Experience managing crisis and escalation situations and making sound, defensible decisions under pressure in ambiguous, time-sensitive, high-impact cases.
  • Ability to apply safety policies with judgment while balancing protection of minors and free expression.
  • Hands-on proficiency with data analysis using LLMs, SQL, or Python to identify abuse vectors and optimize operational performance.
  • Interest in AI and automation for improving Child Safety enforcement and reducing manual workloads.
  • Strong communication skills, including writing escalation summaries, articulating business needs, and working with Legal, Policy, Engineering, and leadership.
  • Active X and Grok user with a deep understanding of the platform’s role as a global public square and its Safety challenges.
  • Lifelong learning mindset, curiosity, self-reflection, teamwork, compassion, and focus on team interests.
  • Ability to work fully onsite in Austin, Texas, support coverage across shifts as needed, and travel occasionally to collaborate with global teams.

Nice to have

  • Experience managing Child Safety or Trust & Safety teams at a social media or generative AI company using AI or automation tools.
  • Experience collaborating with child safety organizations such as NCMEC and law enforcement, using specialized detection tools, or developing CSAM/CSE classifiers.
  • Experience leading red-teaming and adversarial testing of large language models, including identifying abuse vectors, jailbreaks, and safety failure modes and translating findings into enforcement and process improvements.
  • Experience providing human oversight and insights for scaled agentic AI operations, including prompting and evaluating LLM agents.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fully onsite work at the Austin office.
  • Required coverage is organized through Tuesday–Saturday or Sunday–Thursday shifts.
  • The role includes exposure to sensitive or graphic content, including vulgar language, violent threats, pornography, and graphic images.
  • Work involves close collaboration with global teams and cross-functional Safety, Legal, Policy, Engineering, and law enforcement stakeholders.
