Data Engineer I (AWS, Python, GenAI)

Location: Hybrid in Hartford, Connecticut; other location in St. Paul, Minnesota. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Annual base salary: $109,300–$180,200.

What you will do

• Build, operationalize, and maintain complex data solutions, including data cleansing, quality improvements, transformations, and defect resolution.
• Design data solutions and analyze source systems to determine data value for analytical processes.
• Apply data governance, data security, and data quality practices.
• Test data movement, transformation code, and data components.
• Collaborate across teams, support delivery, and educate end users on data products and analytical environments.
• Perform data and system analysis and resolve moderately complex defects and incidents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM field, or equivalent education and/or work experience.
• At least 2 additional years of software or data engineering experience.
• Six years of related experience, including 3+ years in a data engineering role and additional IT or engineering experience totaling 7+ years.
• 2+ years of machine learning or artificial intelligence experience using Python.
• Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; AWS is preferred, including services such as S3, IAM, Lambda, Secrets Manager, and EC2.
• Experience deploying production applications with large language models, including familiarity with agents, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, and fine-tuning.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms, programming languages, data manipulation tools and techniques, and software engineering practices.
• Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose assignments into small-batch releases, and contribute to trade-off and negotiation discussions.
• Domain expertise, technical knowledge of immediate systems, problem-solving and debugging skills, strong verbal and written communication, and intermediate leadership skills with a record of identifying personal growth opportunities.
