Assistant News Director

What you will do

• Assist the News Director with all aspects of news, weather, and sports programming production and lead the department in the News Director’s absence.
• Support planning, staffing, training, performance evaluations, and employment decisions for the News Department.
• Develop news coverage strategies for the station and its website.
• Critique daily newscasts, correct errors, improve coverage, and provide mentoring feedback.
• Assign projects, verify deadlines, respond to coverage questions, and support viewer-rating goals.
• Determine programming and equipment needs for quality production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Minimum two years of experience in news programming production.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to identify developmental needs and coach, mentor, or otherwise improve others’ knowledge and skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to listen effectively, understand employee needs, and communicate with a team to shape solutions.
