Infrastructure Officer (Temporary) (Civil Engineering)

Location: Phoenix, AZ, USA; in-person role involving infrastructure design and installation work in Assosa City.

What you will do

• Prepare site layout, topographic, grading, drainage, and dimension drawings for playground infrastructure.
• Produce equipment placement, assembly, footing, anchoring, fencing, signage, visibility, emergency, and escape plans.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities and technical specifications for civil works and playground equipment.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable national and international playground safety standards, including EN 1176/1177 or equivalent.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, environmental health, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
• Submit accurate, buildable, cost-effective CAD/PDF deliverables, participate in design reviews, and support compliance during installation.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field.
• Minimum experience of 5 years with a Diploma, 2 years with a BSc, or 1 year with an MSc/MD.
• Demonstrated experience preparing technical drawings, Bills of Quantities, and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of site grading, drainage, and structural anchoring principles.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, SketchUp, and Revit.
• Personal laptop pre-installed with the necessary design software.
• Good report-writing, documentation, communication, coordination, technical, and analytical skills, with close attention to safety-critical specifications.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Amharic, plus a renewed professional license.
• Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the local context in Assosa City.

Nice to have

• Experience in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly with displacement-affected communities.
• NGO experience.
• Familiarity with playground safety standards such as EN 1176/1177 or ASTM F1487.
• Ability to speak the local language.
