Junior / Mid-Level Full Stack Developer (Java/Kotlin)

What you will do

• Build and maintain software features using Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, modern web technologies, and RESTful APIs for internal systems and integrations.
• Contribute to frontend development using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Angular, or AngularJS.
• Write maintainable code and work with relational and NoSQL databases to query, structure, and manage data.
• Support quality through unit, integration, and functional testing, code reviews, and defect resolution.
• Use Git, build tools, and CI/CD pipelines while collaborating with product, QA, design, DevOps, and engineering colleagues.
• Apply good engineering practices covering security, performance, accessibility, and maintainability.

Requirements

• Around 2–5 years of software development experience, preferably in a commercial development environment; capability and potential are valued more than exact years.
• Hands-on experience with Java or Kotlin and object-oriented programming, plus exposure to Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks and working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Git, collaborative development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and automated delivery.
• A test-first attitude and willingness to write and maintain automated tests as part of normal development.
• Ability to work effectively in an agile team, communicate clearly, and take a practical and reliable approach to delivery.
• Enthusiasm for technology and willingness to learn, improve, and take on more technical ownership.
• Eligibility to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance where required, including satisfying the necessary UK residency and vetting requirements.
• Pre-existing right to work in the UK. Documentary evidence is required.
• Ideally, a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent practical experience, professional training, or relevant certifications will also be considered.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA, Hibernate, or similar backend technologies.
• Understanding of REST APIs and service-based development.
• Frontend experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ideally TypeScript, plus React, Angular, AngularJS, Vue, modern frontend patterns, or legacy frontend modernisation.
• Exposure to AWS or Azure, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with or progress toward accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Experience in secure, regulated, or operationally sensitive environments.
