Backend Engineer (Ruby), Create: Change Record

Location: Remote, Poland or Remote, United Kingdom.

Base salary in Poland: 248,000zł–372,000zł per year.

What you will do

• Develop secure, well-tested, performant features and improvements using Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, and related technologies.
• Design and maintain backend services, APIs, data models, and business logic supporting source code workflows.
• Work through complex requirements and legacy constraints while protecting system reliability.
• Collaborate with product, design, security, Gitaly, Code Review, Source Code Experience, and other teams asynchronously and synchronously.
• Use AI agents for appropriately scoped development work, critically review their output, and contribute to code reviews and technical documentation.
• Monitor production health, participate in Tier 2 on-call, troubleshoot incidents, support root cause analysis, and improve observability and resiliency.

Requirements

• Professional experience building backend web applications, services, or APIs using Ruby and GraphQL.
• Understanding of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, caching, background processing, and backend performance practices.
• Experience with full-stack development for user-facing workflows and their underlying systems.
• Experience writing backend unit and integration tests, with familiarity with the testing pyramid, Git, and collaborative code review.
• Clear written and spoken English communication skills, including status updates in a remote, asynchronous environment.
• Ability to manage priorities, work through ambiguity, take ownership, and seek guidance when needed.
• Experience using AI coding agents to accelerate software development while critically reviewing their output.

Nice to have

• Experience building agents or agent-based workflows that run in production rather than only as prototypes.
