Backend Engineer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid work with 2 recommended office days per week in Vilnius or Kaunas, Lithuania. Remote work is available for up to 90 days per year in the EU, including 21 days globally; non-EU citizens may work worldwide for 21 days.

Gross monthly salary: €3,558–€4,808.

What you will do

• Build migration and payout flows in Ruby and orchestrate durable Temporal workflows across services.
• Own features end to end, from ambiguous requirements and written proposals through cross-team alignment, implementation, and production monitoring.
• Help migrate millions of members and payment flows from external providers to hirify.global Pay without downtime or transaction loss.
• Build new revenue streams on top of hirify.global Pay payment capabilities.
• Use Ruby, MySQL, OpenSearch, Redis, Kafka, Temporal, Prometheus, and Grafana, while learning unfamiliar technologies quickly.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; own alerts and business metrics, support 99.99% availability, and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

• Ownership of features and projects from start to finish, including breaking down complex problems for others.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity, identify the underlying need, propose solutions with trade-offs, and drive agreement.
• Product-engineering mindset focused on user and business outcomes.
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills with an emphasis on simplicity and avoiding over-engineering.
• Ability to document technical decisions through proposals, RFCs, and ADRs.
• Strong focus on observability and monitoring.
• Conscious use of AI-assisted and agentic coding tools to improve individual and team productivity.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Experience in payments, fintech, KYC/AML, or another regulated domain.
