Senior UX Designer (Design & Front-End Development)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia, US; hybrid with 3 days onsite each week and remaining days remote. Remote work must be performed within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidates must be able to commute regularly. No relocation assistance or visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: $85,000–$105,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.

What you will do

• Partner with business stakeholders, developers, UX researchers, strategists, product experts, and domain experts to understand customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• Create user flows, information architecture, customer journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs using Figma.
• Analyze user research, usability testing, analytics, and stakeholder feedback to inform design decisions and support research activities.
• Translate designs into production-ready front-end code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Vue, and related technologies.
• Maintain responsive experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile; evolve design systems, reusable patterns, UX standards, and implementation guidelines.
• Advocate for accessibility, facilitate design workshops and reviews, participate in Agile ceremonies, and document decisions for technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional UX design experience within a software development organization.
• Proficiency with Figma and modern UX design practices, including user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
• Experience designing and validating responsive experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile platforms.
• Demonstrated experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to maintain and enhance production web experiences; familiarity with CSS preprocessors such as SASS.
• Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks such as Vue and component-based design systems.
• Experience working directly with software development teams throughout the design, implementation, and release lifecycle.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies, digital accessibility principles, and WCAG.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing front-end code within a production software environment.
• Experience evaluating, designing, reviewing, or testing accessible digital experiences.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, Miro or similar collaboration tools.
• Experience contributing to design systems or reusable component libraries.
• Experience designing eCommerce, retail, or other complex transactional experiences.
• Experience participating in usability testing and applying research findings to design decisions.
