National Security Expert (AI Policy)

Location: Based in Washington, DC; hybrid or full-time in-person work, with occasional travel to Berkeley or other locations as required

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year, dependent on experience

What you will do

• Support the Head of Policy in expanding work with the national security community.
• Develop policy recommendations and recommendations for using national security capabilities and resources to address AI risks.
• Assess when and how to use trusted relationships in the national security community with sensitivity and discretion.
• Advocate for policy recommendations across government, media, and the nonprofit sector.
• Work on a project-based approach where key deliverables may change every few months.

Requirements

• Expertise in national security demonstrated through an intelligence community, defense, regulatory, or academic background.
• Familiarity with AI national security risks, including loss of control, recursive self-improvement, catastrophic misuse, and rapid AI capability growth.
• Understanding of Washington, DC policy processes, communities, and mechanisms.
• Comfort taking initiative and delivering results in an evolving project-based environment.
• Ability to work from Washington, DC in a hybrid or full-time in-person arrangement.
