Engineering Manager, Merchant, AI/ML

Location: San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Seattle, or New York. The posting lists locations in the United States and Australia.

Salary: $193,800–$285,000 USD base salary per year, plus potential equity grants.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a team of AI/ML engineers building production-grade machine learning and generative AI solutions for merchants.
• Define and execute a multi-year AI roadmap covering onboarding, menu media understanding and generation, menu metadata intelligence, and agentic task automation.
• Partner with product, design, operations, and data science to turn merchant problems into scalable AI-powered products.
• Own the ML system lifecycle from ideation and experimentation through productionization and continuous improvement.
• Drive innovation in multimodal AI, LLM-powered assistants, and generative AI content creation.
• Mentor engineers and develop an engineering culture focused on experimentation, reliability, inclusion, and measurable impact.

Requirements

• 7+ years of industry experience in machine learning and AI engineering.
• 2+ years of leadership experience managing applied scientists and ML engineers.
• Experience building and deploying AI/ML systems at scale, including AI-powered products used by millions of people.
• Technical depth in at least one area such as computer vision, natural language processing, generative models, or large-scale agent systems.
• Strong communication, roadmap definition, execution planning, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience using AI to solve customer problems at the intersection of product and engineering.
