Flight Software Architect (Aerospace)

Location: Munich, Bavaria, Germany. Relocation assistance is available, including visa sponsorship where applicable.

What you will do

• Define, develop, and maintain the flight software architecture, including components, interfaces, data flows, and execution models.
• Drive architectural decisions, design principles, technical standards, and best practices for flight software.
• Coordinate software interfaces with avionics, onboard computers, sensors, actuators, GNC, communications, and other spacecraft subsystems.
• Translate mission and system-level requirements into software architecture, interface specifications, and verification strategies.
• Address fault tolerance, timing constraints, resource utilization, failure detection and recovery, safety, and spacecraft reliability.
• Manage architectural risks, support design reviews and verification activities, and align Flight Software, Systems Engineering, Avionics, GNC, Mission Operations, and external partners.

Requirements

• 10–15 years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience with flight software, embedded software, or safety- and mission-critical systems.
• Experience defining and evolving architectures for complex critical software systems, ideally in spacecraft, launch vehicles, satellites, or aerospace.
• Strong knowledge of real-time embedded software, operating systems, hardware–software interfaces, resource-constrained computing, and distributed or fault-tolerant systems.
• Experience with system integration, testing, verification and validation, configuration management, and change management.
• Strong analytical thinking, technical communication, cross-functional collaboration, and technical risk-management skills.
• Willingness to relocate to Germany may be required; visa sponsorship is available where applicable.
