Staff Software Engineer - Backend (AI)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States

Base pay: $202,500–$274,000 per year in Mountain View, plus potential bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Drive significant technology initiatives across multiple architectural layers from design through delivery.
• Architect and develop scalable, secure, maintainable applications and services that solve critical customer problems.
• Define best practices for application development, platforms, and developer tools.
• Identify opportunities to enhance applications with AI and launch AI integrations in production.
• Evaluate AI and software performance using appropriate metrics and improve user satisfaction.
• Work with global cross-functional teams and coach junior engineers on software engineering and AI integration practices.

Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience delivering enterprise-class applications.
• Strong experience with scalable application development, algorithms, design patterns, Java, databases, and cloud environments.
• Experience with test automation, including TDD, unit, integration, functional, and performance testing.
• Practical experience with microservices, containers, Kubernetes or similar container management systems, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to build or integrate AI models, evaluate production performance, and lead AI integration while collaborating with data scientists, product managers, and engineers.
