Laboratory Research Assistant (Robotics and AI)

Location: On-site in Toronto GTA, Canada

Compensation: CA$25 per hour; part-time, capped at 20 hours per week

What you will do

• Run biology and chemistry protocols, preparing materials and instruments and following agreed laboratory methods safely.
• Perform procedures while being filmed and clearly explain laboratory techniques and actions.
• Document methods, settings, observations, results, and deviations to maintain experimental traceability.
• Prepare materials, check equipment, reset workspaces, and support reliable repeat runs.
• Troubleshoot experimental and technical issues, identify failures early, and test agreed improvements.
• Improve laboratory preparation, execution, and documentation workflows.

Requirements

• Reliable on-site attendance in Toronto is required.
• Hands-on laboratory skills in biology, chemistry, or a related experimental discipline, with sound experimental judgment and accurate records.
• Practical robotics and automation experience gained through research, coursework, or projects.
• Demonstrable interest in AI, computer vision, and robotics.
• Clear communication and comfort explaining laboratory techniques under agreed filming arrangements.
• MSc or PhD students and recent graduates are welcome; the target start is around 1 November.

Nice to have

• Lab teaching assistance, laboratory management, or operations experience involving training, equipment, inventory, or scheduling.
• Python, instrument control, computer vision, or scientific software experience.
• Projects connecting software with physical systems or self-driving laboratories.
• Initiative in a laboratory, student venture, or small team; founder experience is welcome.
