Junior Data Scientist (Python)

Location: Remote within the United States only; candidates must reside, be authorized to work, and perform all work in the United States. Foreign access, foreign IP addresses, and personal VPN connections are prohibited. Office location: Reston, Virginia.

Salary: $81,499–$138,549 per year.

What you will do

• Extract, clean, transform, and analyze structured data with SQL and Python.
• Perform exploratory analysis to identify patterns, trends, anomalies, and data-quality issues.
• Assist with statistical analyses, machine-learning models, validation, documentation, and analytical workflows.
• Develop Databricks notebooks and repeatable workflows, including reusable code and unit tests.
• Create datasets, visualizations, and reports in DataConnect using AWS QuickSight.
• Partner with data engineers and stakeholders to define data needs, resolve quality issues, translate business questions into analyses, and present findings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics, or a related quantitative field.
• At least 2 years of experience using Python for data analysis, data preparation, and statistical modeling.
• Foundational SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL or another relational database platform.
• Understanding of statistics, data preparation, exploratory analysis, and model evaluation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• Must reside in the United States, have United States work authorization, and have lived in the United States for three full years out of the last five.

Nice to have

• Experience with Databricks, Spark, notebooks, or cloud-based analytics platforms.
• Experience with AWS QuickSight or comparable business-intelligence tools.
• Experience with pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, or PySpark.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, Git, code reviews, unit testing, CI/CD, and Agile practices.
• Experience with health, public-sector, regulated, governed, or privacy-sensitive data.
