What you will do

• Build and lead a team of 2–4 Research Associates, including hiring, training, performance management, and career development.
• Design, execute, troubleshoot, and analyze mammalian genome editing assays with NGS readouts in arrayed and pooled formats.
• Establish a centralized screening core covering assay standardization, sample tracking, data quality, and analysis-ready datasets.
• Develop and qualify assays, define acceptance criteria, maintain cell line quality and inventory, and improve assay sensitivity and reproducibility.
• Coordinate screening workflows with Automation, Bioinformatics, Data Science, and Biology.
• Lead infrastructure and process improvement projects while shaping the long-term scope of the screening core.

Requirements

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, or an MS in a related field with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on experience with bacterial and mammalian cell culture, genome editing, and NGS-based assays.
• Experience with high-throughput experimentation and analysis of large datasets.
• Experience using LIMS or ELN systems for sample and experiment tracking.
• Ability to establish technical standards and drive consistent execution across operators.
• Ability to work on-site in Emeryville, California, United States.

• Experience building or operating a core facility or centralized service function.
• Experience improving high-throughput processes, leading infrastructure projects, or transferring methods to liquid-handling automation.
• Experience with cell bank and inventory management.
• Strong foundation in experimental design and statistics, including power analysis and design of experiments.
