Cloud Security Engineer

Location: Chicago, United States

Annual base salary: $150,000–$200,000 USD, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Review and audit AWS, GCP, and Azure environments across multiple business units, recommending changes to reduce risk and improve security.
• Define cloud security standards, guidelines, architectural recommendations, and working examples for secure hybrid cloud implementations.
• Secure cloud and Kubernetes deployments through controls for identity, role-based access, network policies, secrets, container images, admission policies, runtime protection, logging, and monitoring.
• Support the migration of on-premise software to suitable cloud technologies and integrate services in data-intensive hybrid cloud environments.
• Evaluate cloud security products and vendor solutions, educate internal clients, and help unify security practices across technology teams.
• Identify vulnerabilities, improve privilege models and least-privilege access, support remediation, and respond to security incidents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional experience.
• 5+ years of experience with Amazon Web Services and exposure to Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure.
• Strong knowledge of cloud encryption and key management technologies, including KMS and HSM.
• Strong command of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
• Experience with containerization and Kubernetes in Linux environments, including architecture, networking, security assessment, vulnerability remediation, and automated guardrails using infrastructure-as-code and policy-as-code.
• Programming experience in at least one applicable language, such as Python, Go, or JavaScript, plus experience with cloud automation, serverless services, hybrid networking, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

Nice to have

• Relevant cloud certifications.
• Experience with Lambda, SQS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
• Knowledge of cloud security best practices, provider controls, regulatory adherence, and vendor evaluation.
