Engineering Manager (SaaS)

Location: Austin, United States; hybrid work model

Salary: $0–$210,000 gross annually in Austin. Compensation for other locations is discussed during the interview process.

What you will do

• Lead 5–8 engineers across one or two squads, with potential growth to 12–15 engineers across two or three squads.
• Own delivery health, including lead time, change-failure rate, release rhythm, scope prioritization, and squad outcomes.
• Maintain AI governance standards by ensuring every AI-generated or AI-modified change is human-reviewed before merge.
• Partner with AI Research and Product on model-quality workstreams, delivery priorities, outcomes, and scope.
• Develop engineers and technical leads through coaching, feedback, performance management, and career growth.
• Lead full-cycle hiring, including sourcing, interviewing, closing offers, and building team foundations.

Requirements

• 5+ years as a strong senior engineer working with distributed systems, microservices, and SaaS platforms, followed by 4+ years of management experience.
• Proven multi-team management experience across two or more teams, approximately 10–20 engineers, or through technical leads.
• Experience building teams through sourcing, hiring, development, and performance management.
• Experience delivering in regulated or audited environments such as health, fintech, or government, including hard release gates and audit trails.
• Ability to read code, challenge designs, evaluate AI-generated code, and own delivery risks and outcomes.
• Direct communication style, strong delivery ownership, and willingness to lead AI-assisted delivery with human framing and verification.

Nice to have

• AI-first delivery experience with human-in-the-loop review discipline.
• Multi-tenant SaaS architecture experience, including tenant isolation, RBAC, entitlements, and secure API design.
• Cloud-native experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps, observability, metrics, logs, and tracing.
• Production experience with LLM or agentic features and familiarity with .NET, Node, React, Python, or Kubernetes.
• Life sciences, clinical trials, or experience scaling an engineering organization from 15 to 50 people.
