Senior Software Engineer (User Behavior)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office attendance is required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $196,750–$243,290 USD base pay annually, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Build and operate a low-latency per-user behavioral data layer for real-time safety decisions.
• Develop a centralized consequence engine combining deterministic rules with ML risk signals.
• Create a backend-driven framework for delivering feature restrictions and safety interventions.
• Unify abuse-reporting channels with LLM classification, agentic review workflows, and ML-based routing.
• Design explainable, fair, and auditable serving infrastructure for user-safety decisions.
• Own end-to-end delivery from system design and migration through testing and production operations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems at scale, ideally with Go or another statically typed backend language.
• Strong distributed-systems experience, including service APIs, RPC/gRPC, high-throughput event ingestion, caching, and low-latency read paths.
• Experience developing rules engines, workflow or decision systems, and stateful business-logic services.
• Experience with streaming or batch data pipelines feeding a feature store or similar ingestion layer.
• Production operations experience with monitoring, alerting, on-call, capacity planning, and incident response.
• For US-based roles, certain US visa categories may not be supported, including future H-1B sponsorship in some circumstances.

Nice to have

• Experience in trust and safety, fraud, risk, or other adversarial domains.
• Experience with feature stores or ML-serving infrastructure.
• Experience building frontend-agnostic, backend-driven UI frameworks.
