TL;DR
Staff Robotics Systems Integration Engineer (Robotics/AI): Owning hardware and systems health for a deployed humanoid robot fleet with an accent on reliability, hardware qualification, calibration, and cross-functional systems integration. Focus on diagnosing actuator, thermal, encoder, CAN, controls, and firmware failures, building fleet health infrastructure, and turning field evidence into hardware and serviceability improvements.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; on-site

Company

hirify.global develops general-purpose humanoid robots powered by a proprietary embodied AI foundation model and deployed with customers across multiple industries.

What you will do

  • Own the hardware reliability and systems integration roadmap based on fleet data and customer impact.
  • Shape next-generation actuator selection, electrical architecture, thermal design, and serviceability with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and controls partners.
  • Establish qualification, validation, release, incoming-test, and pre-merge validation practices.
  • Diagnose complex actuator, encoder, calibration, thermal, CAN bus, firmware, controls, and model-side failures.
  • Bench-test, rework, repair, and modify electromechanical hardware, including fixtures, jigs, brackets, and service solutions.
  • Build fleet health metrics, alerting, calibration tools, safety gates, and telemetry pipelines for bandwidth-constrained robots.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, hardware test, or reliability engineering, including significant work with fielded hardware.
  • Experience owning technical direction, setting priorities, making hardware tradeoffs, and influencing partner teams.
  • Hands-on ability to tear down, repair, rework, and recommission electromechanical assemblies using tools such as soldering irons, multimeters, and calipers.
  • Deep knowledge of actuator failure modes, quasi-direct-drive actuators, encoders, torque and current telemetry, CAN, calibration, and zeroing procedures.
  • Working knowledge of impedance and torque-controlled robotics, controller state lifecycles, and distinguishing hardware faults from controls issues.
  • Strong Python skills for data analysis and tooling, plus experience with time-series data, Datadog or similar systems, and PR-based workflows.

Nice to have

  • Experience with teleoperation systems, VR interfaces, or data-collection fleets.
  • Hardware qualification using EVT/DVT/PVT gates or manufacturing and incoming-test experience.
  • Experience building a hardware function from scratch or working as an early member of a hardware team.
  • MuJoCo simulation experience and a track record of creating tools and SOPs adopted by other engineers.

Culture & Benefits

  • High-ownership role with responsibility for defining the roadmap and technical direction.
  • Close collaboration across mechanical, electrical, firmware, controls, and data disciplines.
  • Emphasis on technical rigor, measured evidence, mutual respect, and practical problem-solving.
  • Equal opportunity workplace focused on building technology for real-world environments.
