Principal Engineer, Technology

Location: Hybrid in St. Petersburg, Florida, United States; office attendance is required three days per week

What you will do

• Own and lead end-to-end architecture, design, and hands-on development for scalable, highly available, and secure on-premises and cloud solutions.
• Build cloud-native microservices, REST APIs, Kafka-based event-driven systems, and Spark-based ETL/ELT data pipelines using AWS services.
• Lead proofs of concept, prototypes, technical roadmaps, reference architectures, and engineering standards.
• Design platform capabilities covering networking, security, logging, monitoring, storage, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
• Lead resolution of complex production issues, root cause analysis, observability improvements, and long-term stability initiatives.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship while collaborating with product owners, business partners, vendors, technology, and support teams.

Requirements

• 10–15 years of general professional experience and a required bachelor's degree in Computer and Information Science.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, ORM/Hibernate, distributed systems, and Python.
• Strong AWS experience, including EKS, MSK, S3, EMR, Redshift, Glue, MWAA/Airflow, IAM, and CloudWatch.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Apache Kafka or Confluent Kafka, CI/CD, DevOps, scalable data pipelines, Spark, and distributed data platforms.
• Experience with Oracle, Redshift, SQL, monitoring and APM tools, and systems requiring scalability, resiliency, security, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Ability to work from the St. Petersburg, Florida office three days per week, communicate complex technical concepts clearly, and occasionally work nights, weekends, or on-call shifts.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services or large-scale enterprise technology environments.
• Experience using AI-assisted productivity tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT.
