Ground Station Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Carlos, CA or Seattle, WA, United States

Salary: $145,000–$171,000 annually

What you will do

• Design and develop distributed software systems for ground station network operations and core infrastructure services.
• Build Python and Go software, simulation frameworks, testing systems, and internal tools for automation and operational workflows.
• Test and integrate software on commercial and in-house hardware while collaborating with hardware engineers on end-to-end debugging.
• Support system bring-up, integration, launch preparation, and on-orbit operations, including anomaly investigation and performance optimization.
• Contribute to architecture decisions across software and hardware boundaries and drive pragmatic scope and risk tradeoffs for an on-orbit demonstration.
• Mentor engineers and review designs and code to improve software quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience building production software systems.
• Strong programming skills in Python or Go.
• Experience with hardware-adjacent, distributed, or real-time systems.
• Understanding of operating systems, networking, and concurrency.
• Applicants must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements, including U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time operating systems, embedded systems, or robotics.
• Background in aerospace, autonomous systems, or other high-reliability environments.
• Experience building simulation frameworks or hardware-in-the-loop testing systems.
• Familiarity with Linux-based systems, low-level debugging, cloud infrastructure, or mission-operations distributed systems.
• Experience owning systems end-to-end in high-ownership environments.
