Trade Mark Attorney

Location: Onsite in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What you will do

• Manage trade mark, design, and other intellectual property matters for clients across Malaysia, Singapore, Southeast Asia, and other jurisdictions.
• Conduct clearance searches and advise on registrability, availability, and prosecution strategy.
• Prepare and coordinate trade mark applications, respond to office actions and examiner queries, and manage renewals, recordals, and portfolio maintenance.
• Handle oppositions, cancellations, appeals, invalidation, rectification, enforcement, and related proceedings before relevant authorities and courts.
• Draft and advise on assignments, settlement, coexistence, licensing, and other IP agreements.
• Provide strategic client advice and supervise or mentor paralegals and junior associates.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of post-qualification or post-admission experience in trade mark prosecution and portfolio management.
• Qualification as a trade mark attorney or agent, or a legal qualification with relevant IP experience; experience with Malaysian and Singaporean trade mark practice is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of Southeast Asian trade mark practice and wider intellectual property law.
• Excellent legal drafting, analytical, research, and client communication skills.
• Fluent English is required.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines across a multi-jurisdictional caseload with minimal supervision; a minimum 2:1 undergraduate and/or postgraduate grade is required.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Chinese or another Southeast Asian working language.
• Litigation and enforcement experience.
• Experience with PDPA, licensing, assignment, and settlement agreements.
