Mechanical Design Engineer (Vacuum Systems)

Location: Chelmsford, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work arrangements may include a mix of in-office and remote work depending on role and business needs.

Base salary: $76,526.52–$103,535.88 USD per year, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Design and develop vacuum chambers, frames, subassemblies, vacuum and nitrogen lines, and precision mechanical components.
• Create and update 3D CAD models, assemblies, 2D drawings, and manufacturing documentation using Creo.
• Perform structural, modal, and O-ring compression calculations and support engineering analysis.
• Support system builds, design reviews, peer reviews, and concept reviews.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and systems engineering teams on system integration.
• Manage BOMs, engineering change orders, configuration data, and product support through production release.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong understanding of statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, and mechanical design.
• Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Creo.
• Understanding of mechanical drawings and GD&T.
• Strong analytical, communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Coursework, internship, or hands-on experience with high- or ultra-high-vacuum chambers, vacuum pumps, O-ring or metal sealing interfaces, or cleanroom environments.
• Familiarity with vacuum gauges, instrumentation, vacuum-compatible materials, semiconductor equipment, or automation systems.
• Exposure to PLM systems and engineering change workflows.
