Senior AI Engineer

Robots & Pencils is an applied AI engineering firm building and deploying AI co-workers and production digital solutions for enterprise clients.

What you will do

• Design, implement, optimize, and deploy AI/ML models and generative AI systems from concept through production.
• Build data pipelines, training workflows, RAG pipelines, APIs, and agentic systems.
• Maintain production AI systems by monitoring drift, debugging issues, and improving reliability and scalability.
• Contribute to AI architecture, design discussions, code reviews, and long-term technical decisions.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to align AI systems with business goals.
• Support junior engineers and communicate technical trade-offs and model behavior to non-specialists.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years focused on production AI/ML systems.
• Hands-on generative AI development experience and proven ability to design and ship agentic systems.
• Strong software engineering background with Python or a similar language.
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably AWS services and AWS generative AI offerings.
• Experience with AI frameworks, orchestration tools, evaluation frameworks, LLM observability, and AI safety.
• Experience with prompt-injection defenses, PII handling, vector databases, Docker, Kubernetes, APIs, and AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Nice to have

• Experience optimizing token economics through caching, model routing, and quantization.
• Experience working with enterprise AI systems and complex technical challenges.
