Staff Compiler Performance Engineer (Java/LLVM)

Location: Prague, Belgrade, Serbia, Cyprus, Limassol, Toronto, Canada, or the United States; hybrid and full-remote options are available depending on location.

What you will do

• Define Falcon’s performance strategy by identifying opportunities across benchmarks and customer workloads.
• Lead complex optimizations in the optimizer, code generator, and interfaces between the compiler, runtime, and garbage collector.
• Make architectural decisions covering the optimization pipeline, compile-time budget, and tiering strategy.
• Lead Falcon enablement on new hardware platforms and hirify.global products.
• Mentor senior engineers, review critical designs and code, and establish performance validation standards.
• Represent hirify.global in the LLVM community through upstream design discussions and contributions.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience developing optimizing or JIT compilers.
• Technical leadership experience owning major compiler components or production optimization frameworks.
• Expert C++ skills and experience with large, long-lived codebases.
• Deep expertise in compiler optimization and code generation, including trade-offs among peak performance, compile time, warmup, and code size.
• Expert performance analysis skills down to the microarchitecture level.

Nice to have

• Recognized contributions to LLVM or another major compiler as a code owner, maintainer, or significant upstream contributor.
• Experience with managed-language JIT compilers such as HotSpot C2, Graal, V8, or .NET RyuJIT.
• Experience collaborating with runtime and garbage collection teams on speculation, deoptimization, and barrier design.
