Staff Data Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid work with in-person attendance at an assigned hirify.global office at least two days per week. Travel 10–20% of the time.

Salary: $112,500–$187,500 annually, with potential eligibility for annual bonuses and other incentives.

What you will do

• Lead complex analytics and AI consulting engagements from opportunity shaping through solution design, model development, evaluation, deployment readiness, and monitoring.
• Translate client needs into practical, scalable solutions that deliver measurable business value.
• Provide technical leadership across machine learning, statistical modeling, generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, MLOps, and responsible AI.
• Own analytic consulting responsibilities for assigned clients and collaborate with Sales, Product, Technology, and industry teams.
• Present analytical insights, model risks, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
• Mentor, coach, and train junior colleagues and peers while contributing to research, innovation, and delivery improvements.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in statistics, applied mathematics, financial mathematics, computer science, engineering, operations research, or another highly quantitative field, or a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline.
• At least 6 years of professional experience performing analytic work and at least 5 years directly supporting internal or external clients.
• Advanced programming, data engineering, and applied AI/ML skills.
• Proficiency with Python and/or R, SQL, cloud-based analytics environments, distributed data platforms, and modern machine learning frameworks.
• Experience leading complex analytic or AI-enabled solutions, including solution design, model development, validation, stakeholder alignment, and delivery coordination.
• Leadership behaviors including collaboration, peer coaching, accountability, change leadership, and the ability to guide others.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, model evaluation, MLOps, model monitoring, and responsible AI or model governance.
• Familiarity with credit bureau data, regulated financial services, credit risk, fraud, insurance, or digital marketing analytics.
• Experience creating reusable analytic assets, documentation standards, governance artifacts, or scalable consulting processes.
• Experience mentoring peers, supporting onboarding or recruiting, and strengthening team culture.
