Staff Product Engineer

📍 Remote, Europe (CET ±3 hours), excluding Russia and Belarus

An international product SaaS company building a platform for accounting and financial firms. All engineering is in-house, the team is fully remote and spread across dozens of countries.

The company is looking for a Staff Product Engineer to own an entire product domain. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports, but with company-level accountability for the technical direction of the domain. At its core it is a backend role where you also help shape the product.

What you'll do:
• Own the architecture and technical direction of your domain, with decisions judged on a horizon of years, not sprints
• Partner with the PM from discovery, before a finished spec exists
• Be accountable for outcomes: that features ship, work, and hold up under load
• Break work into independently shippable stages and bring in the engineers each stage needs
• Design the APIs and interfaces of your domain and agree on integrations with neighboring teams
• Raise the bar for engineers around you through design reviews, pairing, and direct feedback
• Own the speed of the loop from idea to real users and back, using AI where it genuinely helps

Key requirements:
• 8+ years in software development, including 3+ years owning a production system with real users and a real cost of error
• Experience changing the data model of a live system under load (migration path, risks, point of no return)
• You have operated what you built: been on call and made structural changes after incidents
• Deep backend experience, cloud-native, distributed systems in production (consistency, idempotency, partial failures)
• Multi-tenant SaaS: tenant isolation, long-running workflow state, data integrity
• DDD applied on a real codebase
• Experience leading work with stakeholders and product. An architect role without delivery responsibility is not a fit
• Good judgment on where AI helps and where to rely on your own reasoning
• Fluent English. The engineering team is currently Russian-speaking, but the company is open to expanding it

Nice to have: Ownership of a domain maintained by several teams, AWS at scale, Rails or Python, React/TypeScript, experience making coding agents effective on production codebases
