Lead Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote - Bulgaria

What you will do

• Architect, develop, and maintain scalable, secure systems and APIs for real-time applications serving millions of users.
• Own the full development lifecycle, from shaping feature architecture to breaking down workstreams and guiding implementation.
• Write high-performance, well-tested code and enforce standards for reliability, scalability, design patterns, and code quality.
• Triage, debug, and resolve complex production issues while improving operational excellence.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to align technical solutions with business goals.
• Mentor engineers and shape the team roadmap, technical direction, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a suitable combination of education, experience, and training.
• At least 5 years of object-oriented backend development experience with C# or Java.
• Advanced knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and backend architecture.
• Experience architecting, building, and scaling distributed systems in AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience developing automated unit, integration, and performance test suites.
• Experience mentoring engineers, leading code and design reviews, and making cross-functional technical decisions.
